You’re invited to turn your lens on Art & About photography competitions
Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to submit images that depict their interpretation of life for two of the country’s most prestigious photography exhibitions and prizes.
Amateur and established photographers across Australia can enter the City of Sydney’s Australian Life competition with the chance to win $10,000 and have their work showcased in an outdoor exhibition in Sydney’s Hyde Park.
Its junior competition Little Sydney Lives, is calling for images from kids aged 3–11 that show their perspective on life in Sydney for a chance to win $500 in photography equipment and be part of the exhibition.
The images will be blown up to large-scale portraits for the exhibition to run in Hyde Park from 19 September to 6 October.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the much-loved Australian Life photography competition provides an insight into the unique and varied lives of people from across the country, while the junior version has become a favourite among Sydneysiders.
“This is an opportunity for both established and emerging photographers to share their most engaging and intriguing images in all its beautiful diversity and complexity.”
In 2018, Joshua Morris from Marrickville won the Australian Life’s $10,000 prize for his image of a flamenco dancer performing to residents of an aged care home. Titled Pepa Molina, and some of the residents of the Parque Habitacional, the judges described the image as “a real celebration of a female artist in the centre of practice”.
Seven-year-old Kobi Cleary, from Meadowbank, took the honours in the 3–7 age category of the 2018 Little Sydney Lives for his LEGO image, Where’s Wally?
Patrick McCarthy, age 10, from Normanhurst won first prize in the 8–11 years age category for his image, The Little Things of pebbles in the sea.
