Sydney Harbour was a blaze of colour as Australia's biggest city rang in the New Year with a spectacular fireworks display. An estimated 1.5 million revellers lined the harbour for the midnight (1300GMT) extravaganza in the first major city to enter 2011. The Botanic Gardens, Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay were among the prime viewing positions on a clear and warm summer's evening. About 7,000 kilograms (15,400 pounds) of pyrotechnics were launched from the Harbour Bridge, barges and surrounding buildings.
